The Danish Register of Underground Cable Owners (LER)

A reliable supply of electricity, gas, oil, television, internet, district heating, water, and sewer services is essential to modern society. The Danish Register of Underground Cable Owners (LER) provides critical information to prevent contractors from accidentally damaging vital utility cables during excavation work.

Excavation accidents are costly for contractors, but also cause significant disruption to citizens and businesses who rely on essential services. The purpose of the Register of Underground Cable Owners is to provide excavators with accurate location information, thereby reducing the occurrence of these incidents.

The Register also serves as a central point of contact, allowing excavators to identify the owners of underground utility cables. This streamlines communication and ensures accountability.

The Danish Agency for Climate Data manages LER and is the responsible authority for the legislation governing the register, which provides the framework for its operation.

Towards Faster Exchange of Information

The Danish Agency for Climate Data continuously operates and develops LER through ongoing dialogue with users and external system suppliers. We are committed to increasing automation, resulting in faster information delivery – with more users now receiving details on underground cables within a couple of hours.

The Danish Agency for Climate Data is responsible for:

  • Supervising the registration of cable owners’ areas of interest in LER, in accordance with the law.
  • Ensuring the reliable operation of LER as an IT system.
  • Further developing the register to meet evolving user needs.
